Spinning

I find that there's too much happening to talk about each individual thing in its proper context. We have the health care legislation still wallowing in the congress, the horrific shooting at Fort Hood by a Muslim soldier, the President still waiting to make a decision on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan and the elections of 2009.

Add all of this together and what have you got? A world that seems to be spinning out of control...at least in my eyes.

And here's the kicker, while the world is spinning and spinning and things - important things - are happening, barely anyone is noticing.

People move on with their lives and if these events do not directly affect them, they pay them no mind besides gawking at the TV screen.

I just came back from a movie - THE BOX - that presents a view on human behavior. SPOILIER ALERT - the box is presented to a couple with a single child and they are given the chance to press a button. If they press it someone they don't know will die AND they will get one million dollars. I won't ruin the movie. But, needless to say, their choices serve as an example for the human condition. The point of the thought experiment is to see if people can ever stop making choices based on their own personal desires and, instead, make a choice or a sacrifice for the good of others.

The answers are illuminating. But the world, well, it just keeps spinning.
